James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the Word & so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
If you’re feeling distance between you & our Lord (which is inevitable sometimes), try these three things to break any barrier that may be in the way
forgive (others, yourself, even God if you feel sideways about something)
repent
pray
I can’t except God to want to move on my behalf if I am holding a grudge or living out of alignment with His Word. I can’t expect Him to forgive me (which He is so gracious to do consistently) if I won’t forgive. He created us to follow Him, not to follow the world or seek our fleeting desires. He created us to live good lives, but not the world’s idea of good, His idea of good: lives of love, charity, self control, service, trusting seeking & holding faith in Him always.
Think about your own life, if someone was disrespectful to you, would you be inclined to meet their every request? I’ll answer myself, I definitely wouldn’t.
Now think about someone who loves you, who listens to you, think of someone who trusts you fully, and implements your advice after asking for it. If they asked you for something, wouldn’t you be excited to show them love and support? Y E S
Would you feel appreciated that they thought to ask? Would your heart get all mushy and warm, feeling joy at the closeness of your relationship?
God doesn’t expect or want us to do things on our own. He wants to guide us, like the shepard He is. He wants to mold us, to shape us, to sanctify us in His image. He wants to prune away the leaves that do not belong, so we can thrive by His PERFECT design.
Surrender & invite Him in to help you. Ask for His help to forgive. Trust Him.
